Western Australian Premier's Book Awards - 2003 Judging Panel

Dr Simon Adams

Associate Professor Simon Adams completed his Ph.D at the University of New South Wales in Sydney. While undertaking his doctoral research he was also attached to the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa, where he worked with former political prisoners in Soweto. He has published widely on matters of international politics and history including his most recent book, "Exit Wounds: Murder, Diaspora and the Irish Troubles", which received much critical acclaim. Dr Adams is a regular political commentator in the media and his more recent research work has been in East Timor and Northern Ireland. Dr Adams is currently the Dean of Arts and Associate Professor of politics and history at the University of Notre Dame in Fremantle. He is the Chairman of the 2003 judging panel.

Professor Brian Dibble

Brian Dibble holds a Personal Chair in Comparative Literature at Curtin University where he teaches creative writing and literature. He was Foundation Head (1973) of what is now Curtin University's Department of Communication and Cultural Studies where he established the state's first undergraduate and graduate programs in creative writing. He is an editor of books and journals, and has also published his own criticism, poetry and fiction along with biographical work on William Hart-Smith and Elizabeth Jolley.

Mr Zoltan Kovacs

Zoltan Kovacs is the Issues editor and chief editorial writer for The West Australian. He started in journalism 36 years ago and has worked as a feature writer, specialist reporter on education and Aboriginal affairs, reviewer of books, plays and jazz, and government media officer. He has edited two books by Western Australian authors.

Ms Suzanne Wyche

Suzanne has been a Senior English teacher for 25 years, most recently at Scotch College, and during that time developed reading programs for students at all levels. She currently assesses manuscripts of works for young people. She is a former State President of the Children's Book Council of Australia (WA Branch), is presently a Committee Member, and in that capacity, in 2002, edited Showcasing Western Australia: Authors and Illustrators for Young People. Suzanne is a judge of the Tim Winton Award for Young Writers for 2003.
